"Ten of us gathered at the Guide Hut at 10am on rather chilly but dry Thursday morning. There was a small weather window forecast with rain due from the West in the Afternoon.
After very little discussion John M suggested a ride to Finzean Tea Room via Mill of Cammie, up to the AA Box and then on to Finzean. This was unanimously accepted. Although the temperature was only 3 Degrees, in the absence of any wind it felt pleasant. There were some interesting mist formations forming half way down on the local hills. On the last leg up to Finzean the Sun came out and it felt quite warm. The first photo at the AA Box shows only 9 of us, with Rufus hidden behind Robin, and no sign of John M. A mystery?:
However the photo at Finzean taken by the owner for placing on the Finzean Facebook Page shows all 10:
From the left; Ian S, Robin, Scott, Ian D, John m, Bob, Myself, Ian W, Rufus and John P. If you look carefully at the photo you can see the mist formation on the hills at the back. After the usual high standard of coffee and scones we set back on the homeward journey. At Feughside I suggested going up to the Shooting Greens and down through Blackhall. However four of the party were happy to continue on the road down to Strachan. The four being Robin, Scott, Rufus and Ian W. The road down to the Dee from Shooting Greens was surprisingly dry with no snow or ice. There was a lot of flood damage along the riverside road. It was just possible to cycle on the edge of the damaged areas, with only a small section requiring dismounting. On reaching the Lower Blackhall Beat the road there has been recently resurfaced to a high standard and very smooth. The gates at the Lodge were open and we cycled home at around 1.30pm before the rain started."
Ian Sharp also provided this slightly dark photo of the bikes and the mist:
John P's route map:
Dick's Strava shows the distance covered was 38 kms with 462 m of climbing - rather more than my modest little run early yesterday (Thursday) morning - just 22 kms this time. Les did a bit better, covering 33 kms, but no photos from him, so you'll have to make do with more of mine:
