"Eight of us met at the Guide Hut this morning at 9am (Birthday Boy Rob, John P., Scott, Mike, John M, Ken P, Bob and Robin). It would have been 9 but Ian S was a last minute call off having been up with his grandson since 5.30am ( a new and original excuse)!
After considering the northerly direction and speed of
the wind we headed South over the Feugh, up the dreaded Tilquhillie hill, and
along past the legendary Knappach ( is it mentioned in Lord of the Rings?).
Thence to the Slug and Woodlands of Durris , a swift dash down the hill to Park
Bridge and along the Deeside Way to Milton of Crathes . Endless coffee refills
and fancy scones including the delicious apple and spice variety (which tastes
good with simple butter but better with raspberry jam in your correspondent’s
humble opinion).Erudite conversation about global warming and the geographic
wonders of Bhutan was dumbed down by Mike’s tales of booze and beats at various
European ski resorts.
Mike's Strava shows the distance covered was 33 kms with altitude of 298 m. Mike also supplied the obligatory team photo, with John P the route map:
l-r: John Perry; Rob Pollard; Scott Hunter; Ken Page; Robin Brodie; Bob Elder; John Meaden and Mike Reilly |
Whilst this was happening, Jeff was completing what he describes as his "penultimate Munros", but he was back in the saddle yesterday (Friday), completing a short 18 kms cycle with 251 m of climbing. Mike was also out again - no surprise there - doing another 33 kms, and, in between several cross-country runs, Chris also managed a bike ride of 18 kms.
We now have 43 Freewheelers rides on this year's database, plus another 105 solo and overseas/away rides.
