"Fabulous weather for an away day starting at Echt and heading out to Loch of Skene, Castle Fraser and beyond.
Eight turned out on a fine morning to load up for the short
drive to Echt.
Peter, John Perry, Dick, Scott, Jeff, Dave W, Iain W and John
Morton. Pretty good turn out given the 6 positive replies!
We opted for quiet roads route to the loch, reaching there nae
bother whilst Jeff and Dick regaled tales of childhood - pike fishing and
paddling being the main focus.
Dave took some photos, and we made off before the flying
beasties came.
Next stop was Castle Fraser - via the tradesmans entrance
(avoiding the hilly tourist entrance!). ''Finest Cheese Scone ever'' was heard
as we munched morning snacks including Almond, Apricot and strawbery tart.
Photos were taken, and those with National Trust loyalty cards got them
stamped.
Now for the way home ... no not the easy way ... outwards
towards Sauchen and do some exploring. Good trundling to start with, but beware
the hills of Cromar. Yellow cards were duly issued and noted. Main roads
flattish but incur traffic risk; farm roads have little traffic but incur risk
of hill climb fatigue.
So we stuck to the B9119 for the fast spin back to the waiting
crowds at Echt (see photo - honest ;).
All in all a fine day out. One of the crew showed off his hebridean touring prowess and pedaled home: Well done Peter :)"
Strava shows stats of 43 kms and 464 m.
A late entry from the Hebridean trip came from John Perry with this route map overview:
