"Bikers: Ian, Scott, Jeff and John.
Trying
hard not to think about voting, the four of us gathered in the misty gloom by
the Guide Hut. Without the usual decisive direction from Ian, Dick or Les (all
swanning around some sunny golf course in Turkey), it took a few minutes to
decide where to ride and remind ourselves and our newcomer, Jeff what the
principles of the group were. Acknowledging we seem to break all the principles
bar one (coffee and scones) we proceeded to break the important one about no
uphills or sweating by heading off towards Blairydryne across the Falls of
Feugh… and… up… the… hill… Cloud base was about head height for most of the ride
and the density of spiders webs in the fields and woods was stunning; all
picked-out by the mist. We eventually stopped for a breather at the Nine Stanes
and our pictures are from there. Indeed Scott and Ian had not been to the
actual circle, consequently, an informed history lesson was offered, mostly on
the fact that the stones were old, very old. We resisted the temptation to
dance around them naked (mmm… to much detail?)
From
there it was downhill… and I think I achieved a record on my over-weight hybrid
of 37mph along the straight bit. (GPS corroborated this at ca. 35 MPH). Brakes
were suitably applied, and we avoided crashing through the door of the Falls of
Feugh Tea Room. The coffee was good, the scones were good and many world
problems were solved across the table. Now exactly which box should I put my
cross in?
Rock
and roll,
John"
