"Congratulations to Rufus de Silva who joined us for the first time this icy Thursday morning when 6 of us(Scott, JohnP, Jeff, Rufus, Dick, Robin) met in sub zero temperatures at the Guide Hut at 9.30am.
A photo was immediately taken of
Robin on his new bike which was also on its first outing. Then it was off
past the 5 aside football pitch and over the golf practice area to the Glassel
Road, along the forestry track to the back road to Brathens and back onto the
Glassel Road for a short distance . After that John Perry's route took us thru
the back tracks past a hamlet which Dick ( who had very cold toes ) told us was
called Fairview. We thought we were heading straight into Torphins but found
ourselves on more remote back tracks which eventually led us past the south of
the village onto the road past Pitmurchie House.(John had to take an orange
card for some of the hills involved) From there we reached the warm haven
of Platform 22 and some very welcome coffee , scones and other fancy pieces !
Rufus then begged us to take the shortest route back but we ignored his pleas
and did the picturesque route round to Camphill with great views of Clochnaben
in the distance. Thence home by Glassel road ,Home Farm and Inchmarlo golf
course.A grand day out!
Stats to come from Rufus but I
reckon 21 miles .

Another sideways photo - note the logo on Dick's headwear |
These well wrapped-up cyclists are believed to be John Perry, Jeff Dickens, Scott Hunter, Robin Brodie, Dick Taylor and debutant Rufus de Silva |
Not sure if this is exactly what they did or not, because John's phone battery let him down and his Strava stats show only part of the journey and a distance of just 9 miles.
