Early August Adventures in the saddle

The A team were out for their usual Monday ride and John M is yet again the reporter:

"The turnout  was good today despite the persistent rain showers hanging around after a glorious morning .

10 Freewheelers gathered -  Ken P , Ken B , Jack , Jeff , Iain W , Drew , Mike , Dick , myself and newbie John Larkin ( Introduced by Drew I think ).

The clouds looked more threatening to the west so we went east into a shower which followed us to Drumoak .

We started out towards Mill of Cammie taking the left turn at the first small bridge (the Knockburn/Garrol climb having been rejected ) then up the steady climb to the T junction at the small wind turbine .  Left here to the next junction then right down the short hill and left into the Slug before turning right onto the route through Woodlands of Durris to the Park Bridge .

The rain had eased but the consensus was to take the Deeside way back and stop at the Milton for tea / coffee and the usual excellent scones .

Most returned home on the Deeside way with Mike , Iain and myself going up through the Castle then out by the west path and Hill of Banchory.

My Strava showed 36.3 k with a matching 363m of vertical .

A pleasant ride in good company with minimal rain interference .

Dick took  the team photo at the Milton ."

The B team, all of whom were unavailable to join the Monday Freewheelers, went out this afternoon (Tuesday). Dave, Colin and I were joined by younger and older cyclists - Ken B, who was out with the A team yesterday, and Archie, last seen Freewheeling in April. On that occasion, Archie had a bit of a fall - his 3rd in a row - but I'm happy to report he has now changed his pedal clamps and did not fall today. Welcome back, Archie!

We decided to cycle in to the wind coming from the east and headed along the Way, with a little loop up through the Crathes estate and then back down to the Way again and out toward Drum for our scone stop. We still haven't broken Dave's resolve not to succumb to the sweet treats, despite the many delights on offer.

Our return route was up via Drum Castle, where we took the team photo:

A nice ride - 36 kms and 256 m of climbing.
