The honour of recording the 300th ride on the solo/overseas database went to John Meaden last Wednesday. John's trip in to Kippie today took total climbing on this same database over the 100,000 mark.
In that time, we've had one Freewheelers group ride - last Thursday. John M reported as follows:
"Nine Freewheelers mustered at 0900 on Thursday 4th August - Dick , Drew , John L , Les , Ian Sh , Jeff , Iain , Jack and myself.
Some were interested in trying the Potarch cafe again so
we decided to head out through the arch and along the river.
The flood damaged path section was further impeded by a
large fallen tree - maybe brought down by wind in the last thunderstorms or
just toppled in sodden ground .
Ian Sh turned left at the T junction just before the
final climb up to Shooting Greens - Ian headed 'downhill' on the Deeside way
home to play golf.
The rest of us continued up then enjoyed the long descent
to Potarch on the Deeside way path with some opting for more speed on the road
.
Kincardine Castle tea room was mentioned but most were
ready for a stop so we went in the Potarch cafe . Scones (fresh) and coffee were all fine and
the setting very pleasant but service slow and erratic .
Craiglash was chosen as the route back - Jeff took a look
up the steep track just beyond the bridge then went up it along with Dick and
Drew . They have only been seen since on Strava .
The rest of us went up the Tillydrine, Craiglash route at
a steady pace up a moderate slope then down from the quarry , left into Glassel
and home .
On Strava 29.6 km and 420m .
Overall an enjoyable route with plenty of variety ."
One recent feat I overlooked reporting on was Les and bike at the top of Scolty:
(Apologies about the poor quality photo - taken straight off Strava).
