"Nine of us turned out for a local ride on the day after the Solstice - including John P who became a grandfather a matter of hours before the ride . Congratulations John - we now have another responsible grown up to lead us .
It was a pretty conventional morning , a leisurely start
from the GH and Les told an aggressive car driver his fortune before the bridge
( Orange Ford Fiesta ST ).
It was a cool rather muggy day after the storms of the
night before . The route proposal of the Deeside Way to Finzean caused little
comment but a split soon developed .
Bob , Scott and John P peeled off at Scolty car park to
do the flank of Scolty to Strachan . The remaining 3 Johns , Dick , Les and Ian
Sh carried on up the main Deeside Way to Shooting Greens - the track is dry and
generally in good condition but the 2 sharp hills beyond the car park have not
gone away.
We then took the farm track down to the Finzean road and
on to the farm shop . We met a few guys there from another cycle group
including Ahmed Geddick - who very dubiously claimed to have arrived over the Cairn
. Quote a few bacon butties consumed along with the usual fine scones and
coffee . Politics and cycling were on the conversation agenda - Strava geeks
had spotted Mark Beaumont coming through Banchory recently on his tour of
Britain doing times similar to ours - but having done about 200 miles first .
Standard route home through Mill of Cammie .
32.9 k and 391 m .
308m for flankers ."
Elsewhere, a brief comment from John Perry:
"A corroded headset and a broken chain at Glen Tress led me to a strip down and full service. New bottom bracket bearings arrive today, so with those, new headset bearings, disc rotors and pads, cassette and chain, and tyres; hopefully we will be back in business soon."
