Iain Wright was yesterday's reporter:
"In
the absence of our beloved, missing Oberfuhrer, only five Freewheelers
(Dickens, Elder, Simpson, Taylor and Wright) assembled at the Guide Hut but an
objective was quickly agreed and the close-knit team embarked upon a “reverse
Torphins”, through Burnett Park, via Glassel and the associated Shell garage.
Platform 22 provided excellent sconnage (both sweet and savoury). The return
trip was via the field gun, Beltie Hill and a lovely newly tarmac-ed section of
the farm track."
The previous day - Sunday - there was initial interest from John McWhinnie and a (too) late acceptance from Ken Page, so it was only Dave Williamson and I who went on a Sunday Saunter. It was a mini away day for us - we met in Ballater and took one car up to the Loch Muick car park for the start of the ride.
It was a route the FW's had done before - out towards Balmoral and the Royal Lochnagar distillery, then back along the South Deeside road to Ballater for tea/coffee and scones at Rock, Salt & Snails.
25 kms and 227 m.
