"On a beautiful sunny morning Thursday 10th August, John, Hugh, Drew, Les, Steve and myself met at the GH 8.30. With bikes duly loaded on to cars we proceeded to the car park at Aboyne and met up with Alan and Jeff.
We then cycled over the Bridge to Birse turned left then
right to Newmill. Then the fun began!! A
long steep climb up a landrover track drew many comments most unprintable. Some
comments were also directed to ebikes but were duly ignored. However after emerging
from the tree line the cycling became easier. There then followed a long
downhill section into Forest of Birse with amazing views over the hills with
the purple heather in full bloom. At the gate entrance to Birse Castle we
encountered some Estate workers who duly notified us that the Laird was in
residence We therefore had to take
small detour round the Castle. From there it was an easy ride down to Finzean
for coffee bacon and sausage sandwiches fruit scones etc. From Finzean we
cycled over the monument and back the South Deeside Road to Aboyne where a
temperature of 21C at 1pm was recorded. In conclusion not a very long ride but
more climbing than usual. All stats recorded on Strava

Hugh hasn't sent in a formal complaint yet - but he may still be recovering. Surely a schoolboy error to allow an e-bike rider to choose the route, however?
I'm back in the UK the middle of next week, but certainly won't be going on any of these kind of FW rides for a while. Still suffering a bit from a respiratory bug we picked up in the Deep South last month and have only managed a couple of short rides over here, the latest of which was this morning (Friday):
