Greetings from Grants Pass, Southern Oregon.
I decided it was time to get my derriere back in the saddle after a few weeks of abstinence and a week of total inactivity on holiday. I borrowed my grandson's bike, hitched up the saddle a notch or two and headed off fairly early in the morning before the heat got up too much.
I had heard that the road out to Rogue Community College was fairly quiet and they had good cycle lanes on the way out and some forest trails in the College grounds.
It was never going to be a long run - I budgeted for about an hour, just to get me back in to the swing of things and try to counteract some of the alcohol intake over the last week.
It was a gradual upward climb to the College, where I briefly ventured off-road, but I was a bit wary as my daughter had told me to watch out for the bears and cougars when I went on the forest tracks! You can probably see my nervousness as I posed for this photo:
I didn't linger and soon I was heading back down the road towards Lucy's home. I went past there and headed towards Schroder Park and the Rogue River for another photo opportunity:
The elapsed time for the run, including a couple of brief stops - but no scones! - was 80 minutes, and the distance covered just 10 miles - but I hope to do a bit more over the next 3 weeks. Watch this space.
