"After a few withdrawals five stalwarts showed up on cloudy but dry afternoon. Dick, Jeff, John P, Ken, Ian Sh with the latter looking resplendent in his Christmas gift – a bright clean (but not for long) yellow jacket.
After a brief discussion we headed East,
through the Graveyard up towards Hill of Banchory and then north past Crathes
Castle (bravely ignoring the beckoning tea room) turning right at The Neuk and
heading due East past Coy down to the Damhead farm turn off. This was a fast ride with few stops and no
one taking the laggard role. After heading North up Couper’s Road for a couple
of miles we turned westwards into a brisk westerly wind, explaining why the
early part of the ride had been so fast.
On the way back just after the recording
studio at Mill of Hirn we turned right towards the Raemoir road but then
immediately left onto the farm track (which proved to be hard going through the
mud) past Lightwood and getting onto welcome tarmac at Catterloch Cottages.
From there it was a relatively fast run through Lochton and down into Tease
where coffee, cake and substantial mince pies awaited us.
On the way back from Tease, Keith Gray (newly
retired – again) was spotted out for a bike run building up speed and stamina in
preparation for joining the group in the
near future."
