Torphins & Adelaide rides

Greetings once more from Down Under and many thanks for the multi-handed report of Monday's cycle. Let's start with the stats - Ken P provided these. It was a distance of 28.1 kms with 302 metres of climbing. Full details here - https://www.strava.com/activities/246453359

Incidentally, why has everyone gone metric with the stats? Is it because it makes the rides seem longer? It may do that, but, on the other hand, surely almost 1,000 feet of climbing sounds better than 300+ metres?

Next up was Scott with the photos:

Scott at least managed to get his pictures the right way up, but he's struggling with other technology, as he wrote to me, frustratedly "if I could work out how to get the rest of the stats off this Garmin thingy on to my computer I would send them to you, but I can't"

Last, but not least, is Robin's match report:

"Sensational Six Ride Out

(Jeff Dickens, Ian Sharp, Scott H, Bob E, Ken P and Robin B) After some of the worst excuses for wimping out ever heard only six of us met at the Guide Hut at 1pm today in glorious sunshine.
It was decided to head West into the ever strengthening wind and so we found ourselves on the usual track from the Glassel road to the Brathens road .

There was a cry of ICE from the front runner but it came too late for Jeff Dickens! He was attempting to pass your correspondent when his front wheel made contact with the latter's back wheel sending Jeff rather sharply off track and into the ditch! Jeff and his bike parted company and he was to be found in a foetal position lieing in the grass at the edge of the woodland.

Nothing daunted , he brushed himself down and remounted as if nothing had happened. Now that is what the Freewheelers are all about!

Then it was onto Torphins by back tracks and roads straight into the biting wind , so the sight of Platform 22 was a welcome one not to mention the great variety of non fattening sweet meats on offer !

Well sustained, we were ready for the Campfield circle and enjoyed spectacular views over to Clachnaben and Kerloch .Then back by the Glassel Road and Home Farm to the back tracks through the woods to Burnett Park and Corsee Road.

Home by 4pm after what all agreed was an excellent outing.

Scott will send the photos to Ian and I think Bob is doing the stats.

There was lots of talk about the Arctic storm coming later in the week with it's forecast "Viking " winds . So we will see how things pan out for Thursday. Maybe sledges will be the order of the day!.

Well done guys - brave effort. I managed to get back on the horse again this morning - my first ride since Hogmanay. I wanted to test if my injured knee was up to it yet, but I was also desperately in need of some exercise and to shake off the after-effects of the Australia Day celebrations yesterday. It's a bit like Hogmanay/New Year at home, except it starts at breakfast time.

Conditions a lot easier here than back home - a sunshine run along the flat prom, using my son-in-law to be's bike, complete with baby seat! Here I am at Largs Pier:

Not quite 17 kms - sorry 10.3 miles - there and back - https://www.strava.com/activities/246624660
