"Having missed the Monday Bike Ride, I woke to a nice sunny morning on Tuesday and decided to head West and have the strong breeze behind me. Got all the gear together and set off for the 09.46 bus from High Street to Aboyne, only to discover that no bikes allowed on that bus. Undaunted went back home and with bike rack on car set off for Aboyne. From Aboyne car park I took the road to Birse then turned off on the Land Rover Track at Newmill. The road is marked private but undeterred I cycled quietly past the gamekeepers house but disturbed his Labrador Dogs in the kennels. I have never heard such noisy dogs, however nobody appeared. After that it was a bottom gear climb for 2 miles up through the woods until I broke out of the tree line near the footpath leading from the "Guard" (Les you will remember that route). From then it was an easy ride down to Finzean, although I had to Ford the burn at Forest of Birse as the bridge was in the process of being rebuilt. (Photo Attached) Next stop was Finzean Tea Room for welcome Turkey Broth and Coffee. From there an easy ride home via Shooting Greens and Blackhall. Now for some Scallops and Stornaway Black Pudding to build up my strength
