Cairn o' Mount

Jeff this morning completed a long-held ambition of Malcolm Lodge's by cycling up to the top of Cairn o' Mount, sending the following match report, route and photo:

"I try and do Cairn o'Mount non-stop from Strachan school at least once a year.  Got one in today, so here's the info.

Map, profile, stats and selfie attached.

My personal rules for this (in case anyone else wants a go) are:

1) up non-stop (one "mechanical" e.g. chain loss permitted if addressed quickly).
2) maximum 5 mins rest at the top (allows you to start timing down on a multiple of 5 mins).
3) non-stop down.
4) start is the exit of my drive by Strachan School.
5) Top is the highest point on the road.

Today's performance:

                                   UP        DOWN    TOTAL TRIP

Distance (km):         14.3          14.3           28.6
Distance (miles):       8.9            8.9           17.8
Climb (m):                 647            313           960
Time (mins):              70              32            102
Speed (kph):           12.3            26.8         16.8
Speed (mph):            7.6            16.7          10.5

At those speeds it's not surprising I got passed by about two dozen lycra boys wafting past on lumps of carbon fibre.
But hey, I did it and I got a larger exercise benefit than them!

Now to put the feet up and watch the Tour De Yorkshire, safe in the knowledge I won't be troubling Alex Dowsett's Hour Record attempt."

Sterling stuff, Jeff!
