"Gents, 'twas a quiet, sunny but blustery morning in Banchory as the dynamic duo of Dick and Rob debated about which scone-shop to head for!
Of course no decision was taken so we set off to the
south, across the Dee and took the left fork just before Les' house. Following
this up a 'reasonable' hill we eventually topped-out overlooking the Slug road.
Joining this at the narrow bridge we went up past Lochton
precast and took the left-hander near the old Crofters' Inn. Then there was a
lovely ride along to Denside of Durris, with the air as clear as could be.
Then the well earned swoop down to the Park Bridge where
we lifted the bikes over a fence and managed to get onto the south river bank
where no Freewheeler had set wheel before! We followed this along a truly
beautiful, seldom seen stretch of the Dee; past Park House and almost to the
bridge at Crathies. We had to come back up to the Deeside way at that point but
as there is only a couple of hundred metres of 'missing'
track, I'm sure that we'll find a way through next time.
We rejoined the river bank and went under Crathies bridge and across the
football fields to the coffee shop. Great, fresh scones served with a smile by
a 'toothsome wench'.
Meanwhile, over here in Oregon, I've managed to squeeze in a couple more rides this week - a reasonable 37kms on Sunday morning and a short 14 kms yesterday when doing the daily shuttle service to "football" training for my grandson.
Sunday's ride (https://www.strava.com/activities/349639020) included a little bit of offroading round a nature trail at Fish Hatchery Park, located, appropriately enough in Josephine County:
Yesterday (Wednesday) I took a short run from the High School out to Tom Pearce Park and looped back along the trail there:
Might try to squeeze in another ride before we head home on Tuesday. Don't know if I'll be ready to join the A team next Thursday - might be a bit soon to up the ante after these gentle holiday rides. Might have to resurrect the B team - maybe Colin might be ready to re-join the Freewheelers for his first ride after his hip replacement?
