Match report update - Tuesday

No action from your Southern California correspondent, but Robin has been getting around:

"I am down in Brittany for a week on a lovely flat peninsula but as you can see I have been reduced to a message boy bike with only 7 gears."

John P reported last week:

"Freewheeling Son

Summer weather and two days of airports and driving tempted both me and my eldest son out for a 'Freewheeling Loop'. My old Marin East Peak was resurrected and Mike used that, partly in the hope it would slow him down enough to make the riders closer to compatible. TEA SIRTS AND SHORTS, yes what we have all bee waiting for 23° and sunshine.

Up through the forest behind Burnett Park and out towards Brathens and along by the campsite and over the bridge towards Glassel. It was then on familiar tracks to Torphins via the farm and the hill! We managed to wriggle through Torphins without being distracted by Platform 22 and on up to the ridge line by Hazeley Wood, then down past Kincardine Castle and to the Kinker coffee stop. Obviously Mike had to have the full Freewheelers experience and scones and coffee were taken on the tables outside the café.

The weather was still stunning as we headed off to Potarch and up towards Shooting Greens. It was then through the familiar forest to the quarry, down to the fishing hut and along the river. All of which looked quite simply stunning in the sunshine - world class.

It is on Strava, but in summary it was 35km, with 430m of climbing ridden in just on two hours."

Whoops - another upside-down

Monday's conventional Freewheelers ride was reported by John P again:

"Drumoak Venture

The temptation of golf and far-flung adventuring left our ride today with an elite group of three; John M. John P. and Jeff. The weather was slightly threatening, but with shorts and t-shirts temperatures we set of on a familiar Drumoak loop. Nobody wanted to think too hard and we were just looking for a pleasant stretch of the legs; which we achieved. We made our way uneventfully to a break at the Drumoak Garden Centre, where it was noted (but not commented on!) that John M packed-away a hot chocolate WITH MARSHMALLOWS!

Return via the Deeside Way provided a a good run, with plenty of other people using the path, which is good to see.  As we neared the end, just by the timber yard there was a detour down to the river to avoid work that is currently being done on the path, then John M. slipped away by Morrisons to get back home and Jeff and I parted at the Guide Hut. Just what the doctor/ physio/ chiropractor/ wife(?!) ordered…"
