FW Week 10

The continuing mild weather has led to a lot of activity on the cycling front, but already the spectre of competition from golf has raised its head - a few of us opted out of Monday's ride. Other non-golfers apparently didn't fancy the planned journey over to Dyce to pick up the Formartine and Buchan Way, so it was eventually just 6 who travelled over from Banchory. Dick supplied the team photos:

A new coffee shop for the database - Symposium in Ellon. 35 kms and 187 m.

There was, however, a Tuesday Trundle as well. Archie, Keith and I, having taken the opportunity of a good forecast to golf instead of cycle on Monday, decided to go out today (Tuesday) instead - and we were joined by Hugh, recovering from a few weeks' out with back problems, and Dan - for the second time in a week. Dan also introduced a new Freewheeler - Hillbillie Ahmed Gedik.

Torphins had already been decided as the destination, but, to save Archie having to re-trace his steps, we decided to take the eastward route out towards Tesco to start with. Before we got to the former ITE site at Hill of Brathens, Dan and Ahmed opted out, turning left down towards the Birks and home - but not before the camera caught them:

The rest of us carried on to Torphins via the conventional route up Beltie hill.

When we got to Platform 22, who should we spot in there but (very) occasional Freewheeler Malcolm Lodge, who was out training on his road bike for his annual trip down to South Africa to take part in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, an event when he created last year the FW's single day climbing record of 2,452 metres:

Malcolm did the honours for the rest of us:

Strava stats - 33 kms and 299 m.
