"As predicted Friday morning was brighter and a little breezy . 5 Freewheelers turned out - Les , Dick , Rufus , Iain W and myself .
With a small group and a time constraint we decided to go
on the direct route to Platform 22 via Home Farm - just a one hour trip out
in quite mild conditions .The farm track
was a bit muddy but otherwise fine .
After coffee , fresh scones and some analysis of American
politics we headed back via Campfield .
The wind was keener on the higher
section above Campfield but not troublesome .
Overall a very pleasant , relaxed cycle in weather which
is really very benign for early February .
27.5 km and 248m."Next, Monday's report and photos:
"On Monday 6th a total of 8 Freewheelers gathered at midday . With the ice almost cleared and the wind increasing we decided to stay fairly low and in the "sun " and opted for a 2 Castles route .
Present were Drew , Les , Ken P , John P , Scott , John L
, Iain W and myself .
Out on the Deeside Way then up the short track to Crathes
west gate , through the castle then right along the straight . At the first
crossroads Scott and I waited for John P and Ken to catch up
then we headed on . The next time we all stopped at the
start of the farm track they were no where to be seen . Les and I went back on
a short recce but still no sign and no phone signal so we assumed they had
taken another route . They showed up at
Drum Garden centre - turns out John had a puncture and full credit to both for
a complete on the road tube replacement .
After the puncture John and Ken took the quickest route
down to the Deeside Way while rest of us went via the farm track and through
Drum castle to the coffee shop . Scott
went straight back for an early finish while we had a leisurely stop at Drum .
We had a fairly quick blast down the Deeside Way home
without incident and avoiding the worst of the wind and rain which came later .
That's 16 rides on this year's database already.
